Description:
Bleached linen sheet made up of two selvage widths, each 30 1/2" wide by 87 5/8" long. Embroidered near the top edge of the sheet in cross stitch (using black or dark brown silk floss) are the initials "TW" and the number "22", for Thankful Willard. Sheets, one of the most basic and prevalent kind of textile used for beds, were often embroidered with the intials or one or more people (probably the owner(s)). A corresponding number often seen with these intitials may indicate one of several sheets, sometimes written as a pair in probates, perhaps a refernce to the two selvage widths that often make up sheets.
