Description: landscape; statues; ruins
Label Text: Having departed from the widespread inclination to abstract, non-figurative imagery, Pederson-Krag commenced a series of artworks on the theme of ancient terracotta figurines, including the prints displayed here.
In Landscape (with two statues), the artist presents a panoramic view of an ancient ruin, swept by dreamy breezes and muffled in vast emptiness. The composition's horizontality is balanced by the two tall statues, remnants of a glorious past left to guard one another's solitude. The statue in foreground, reminiscent of the Winged Victory (Nike) of Samothrace, gazes past an invisible horizon, evoking a sense of hope for the future in this ancient ruin.
