Label Text:
Kawakami skillfully captures the mood of the Ginza in the rebuilt city. The season is summer, and Modern Girls with bobbed hair and striped dresses stroll along the street, joined by a woman in a light-blue kimono and two men wearing fedoras. A policeman observes the activity. In the upper right-hand corner, Kawakami adds “Printed by Sumio”— an acknowledgment of his own artistry, appearing like a shop sign on one of the buildings facing the street.
