Label Text:
This print is signed at upper-left "Hiroshige ga" ('drawn by Hiroshige'). Directly above the artist's signature are two "nanushi" seals of the censors Mera Tai-ichirō (left) and Murata Sahei (right). The seal of publisher Tsutaya Kichizō of firm Kōeidō is at lower-left. The colloquial name for this series, the "Tsutaya-ban Tōkaidō," is derived from the publisher. The title of this print and the series to which it belongs are visible at upper-right, with the Tōkaidō and the index number in the red cartouche; the remainders of the two titles — the number of stations and the location — appear against the sky to the left of the cartouche.

This stop on the Tōkaidō, a road that ran along the eastern coast and connected Tokyo with Kyoto, is Fuchū, now in the western part of the greater Tokyo area. The shop is identified as a famous mochi bakery by the hanging sign.
