Description: sumizuri-e; horizontal ōban; ehon; fūzoku-ga
Label Text: This print has no verifiable identifying marks and has been attributed and dated using stylistic characteristics and via comparison with other impressions, most notably at the Boston MFA (acc. no. 06.367) and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York (acc. no. JP1584). The Mead's version, as well as that of the Metropolitan, differ from the Boston impression, which features a small tsukubai water basin in the upper-left quadrant.
This impression, unlike the other two, bears the seal of Okumura Masanobu, which was added later, most likely by a dealer in order to appeal to Western collectors, who would have been much more familiar with Masanobu.
