Description: yakusha-e; nishiki-e; aiban; tate-e
Label Text: The title of the print series features in the two cartouches at top-left. The actor Shikan, the poetic name of Nakamura Shikan IV (1831–1899), a member of the Narikomaya guild, is identified at the bottom of the multi-colored cartouche. He can also be identified by his actor's crest or 'mon,' which is on his shoulder. The print is signed at middle-left "kiō Toyokuni ga" ('drawn by the 77 year-old Toyokuni') within the red cartouche and features a toshidama seal. The circular seal to the right of the signature is the date seal of the censor, indicating this print was approved for publication in the first month of 1862 (Bunkyū 1). The rectangular yellow seal directly beneath reads "hanmoto Izutsuya," a seal used by the publisher Izutsuya Shōkichi, who issued many series by Kunisada beginning ca. 1850. The yellow seal beneath the artist's signature reads "hori Chō" ('carved by Chō'), the mark of the blockcutter Katada Chōjirō.
