Label Text:
One of the Nabis, Vuillard is often described as an intimiste in reference to his small paintings of richly patterned, intimate, domestic interior scenes. He also produced color lithographs and large scale decorative panels. This small portrait study represents his close friend and patron, Thadée Natanson (1868 – 1951), the influential art editor and co-owner of the artistic and literary journal La Revue blanche, published in Paris between 1891 and 1903. (Carol Solomon-Kiefer, 2006)
