Label Text: In this print Goncharova refers again to the book of Revelation, in which the destruction of Babylon, the city of all evil—“the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird” (Rev. 18:2, KJV)—is foretold: “And a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone, and cast it into the sea, saying, thus with violence shall that great city Babylon be thrown down, and shall be found no more at all” (Rev. 18:21, KJV). The doomed city, apparently the enemy’s place, is shown in darkness, while the angels are shining in heavenly light. BJ, 2014
