Label Text:
Like Matta, Joan Miró was a member of the Surrealist movement and shared the group’s active interest in modern science and astronomy. Moonscape shares many formal similarities with Mirós earlier series Constellations (1939–1941), which employs cosmic elements such as the moon, sun, and stars to create fantastical figurative shapes, projecting familiar forms onto the great unknown universe.
