Provenance: Ernst Fischer, Berlin; purchased [1] in 1942 by Hans Posse [1879-1942]. Francis Howard, Dorking, Surrey; May 14, 1965 sold to Christie’s London, England (Lot 9, as "Property of a Lady") ($205, to Arcade); with H. Shickman Gallery, New York, New York, in 1967; 1974 purchased in honor of William Rutherford Mead (Class of 1867) by Mead Art Museum, Amherst, Massachusetts.

[1] Loss circumstance reported as cultural property withdrawn due to Nazi persecution. Work identified in the German Lost Art Foundation’s "Lost Art Database" (Lost Art-ID565768) and the German Federal Art Administration. As of December 2025, there is no evidence of a loss of assets due to Nazi persecution. However, this circumstance cannot be completely ruled out.
