Description:
A section of earthenware water pipe, made from red clay, badly cracked and chipped, but showing the color of the clay well. Flat on the bottom, otherwise rounded in section, but now considerably warped out of shape, probably from the excessive heat of the fire which destroyed the pottery. Original dimensions probably were: length 12", outside diam. 3 1/2", bore 2 1/2". The piece comes from one of the Crafts Potteries in Whately, MA, which operated from sometime in the late 40's to about 1860. Presented by Lura Woodside Watkins.
