Description:
A section of earthenware water pipe, made from red clay, and coming from a kiln at a pottery which had been destroyed by fire. The piece is flat on the bottom, otherwise round in section, but is somewhat warped out of shape, probably from the excessive heat of the fire. Original dimensions probably were: length 12", outside diam. 4", bore 3". The piece comes from one of the Crafts Potteries in Whately, MA, which operated from sometime in the late 40's to about 1860. Presented by Lura Woodside Watkins.
