Description:
Includes a handwritten note which reads: "A particularly fine antique piece of chasing silver gilt snuff box by Brunell. Subject the battle of Marston Moor Cromwell & Charles I."
Silver gilt oval box. Beautifully chased. From original file: Silver-gilt oval snuff box with red calf case. Applied rim on cover which lifts on book hinge. Embossed battle scene on cover is of Cromwell and Charles I at Marston Moor Battle. Floral engraving on sides and empty cartouche appear to be machine-worked. Comments: on appraisal: said to be by Brunell; machine engraving.
