Description:
Silver Puritan spoon with a large oval bowl and plain flat stem, which has the touchmark "SV" in a shaped punch for Stephen Venables (d.1683) of London, and is engraved with the initials "T / HM" on the handle. After becoming free in 1640, Stephen Venables appears from surviving examples to have been a major supplier of spoons from the 1640s to the 1670s in addition to training several apprentices. These spoons include an 1660 apostle spoon belonging to the Innholders' Company along with many other apostle spoons.
