Description:
Framed birth record done in watercolors in blue, green, red, yellow, brown, black, purple on tan paper of a vase flanked by two doves and scrolling flowers along the sides and inscribed, "Mr./ John Anson Marsh / was born in Leveritt,/ April 28th 1829." and "1839" flanked by "A M." This was probably done by John Anton Marsh (1829-after 1880) in 1839 as a school excercise; he was the son of John Crosbee Marsh (1800-1870) and and his first wife, Elcipha Marsh (1802-1859) of Leverett. John Anson Marsh later moved to Bethel, Vermont, and married his first wife, Laura Cummings (d.1856) in 1850. A similar birth record is in the collection of the American Antiquarian Society, made for Miss Prudence W. Keet of Deerfield and done in 1816. The AAS example is ascribed to the Master Foster Schoolmaster of Leveritt.
