Label Text:
Renoir painted this view of the sea at Cagnes late in life, when he spent increasing periods of time in the south of France, where the mild weather suited the Impressionist’s declining health, and where he took fresh inspiration from the Mediterranean landscape. Beginning in 1903, the artist preferred Cagnes, eventually building a house there (now a museum), in 1907.
