Man's morning coat of dark green or black wool faille. All edges and detail are trimmed in dark green or black braid, 3/8" wide. The coat has a turned down collar with high, V-notched lapels. Welt breast pocket is on the proper left side. Three bone or plastic buttons on the proper right side of the front secure the coat to four corresponding worked buttonholes on the proper left (one button missing). There is a dart on each side of the front (3 7/8" long) from below the chest area down to a waistseam. The front edges are cut straight unitl the last button, where they taper towards the back skirts (3-4" above waist seam).
Dropped shoulder seams. The coat has a CB seam, flanked by a curved back side seam on each side. There is also a side seam on each side. The two back side seams extend into the skirt, forming pleats. Each pleat begins with a decorative button at the waist seam, and ending sewn into the brais at the hem. The CB seam extends into the skirt as a vent, proper left side over proper right. The coat has set-in sleeves, each with two seams. Each sleeve is front piece is straight, but the back piece is curved to accomodate the natural bend in the wearer's elbow. The cuffs are defined by the presence of braiding 3" up from edge of sleeve, with three decorative buttons (the last button on each cuff is now missing). Coat is lined with dark green or black sateen. The panels of lining follow the piecing of the outer fabric construction. Below the waist seam, and directly below side seams, inside, is one sewn in pleat on each side. The sleeves are lined in a tan twill with a ticking-like printed? design of alternating chain and slash marks in vertical stripes. The collar is lined in a black wool? Label inside reads "BARBER/ R. H. Cushman".
