Label Text:
This striking vessel was probably made expressly as a grave offering, since it has no bottom and could not have been used as a container. Provenance research conducted in the 1960s traced this vessel to a warrior’s tomb excavated in southern Italy in 1895, whose finds were widely dispersed within a few years of its discovery. This head vase was one of four from the tomb, all made from the same mold.
