This print comes from a series of abstract prints executed beginning in 1950, following the death of Yoshida Tōshi's father, the shin-hanga landscape artist Hiroshi Yoshida. He continued to work with abstraction until the 1970s, producing hundreds of designs.

A proponent of the sōsaku-hanga movement, Yoshida designed, carved, and printed eaqch composition himself.
