Description:
Needlework sampler done in silk embroidery on a plain-weave linen ground, which has the inscription, "Betsey Smith / h, Greenfield." This sampler descended in the Foss family along with the Hindsdale (HD 76.016) and Allen (HD 76.017) samplers, but the relationship of Betsey Smith to those families is still unknown. The sampler has five rows of a single set of the alphabet in upper case letters, and numbers "1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 x "17 / ??" along the bottom.
