Description:
Textile fragment, possibly furnishing material, featuring a dense, brocaded design of pink (two shades), green, and orange/salmon. Metallic brocading threads in silver and silver gilt or gold. The ground, a tan ribbed, plain weave silk also contains a self-patterned weft effect of flushing for added depth to the design. The textile, possibly woven in Venice, Italy, illustrates the mastery of Italian silk weaving in the early 18th century, which specialized in furnishing textiles. Selvage width of the silk is about 21" (53.34cm).
