Description:
English delft circular plate with dark blue decoration. The well has a center stylized multi-petal flower face with a dark blue center and two thick bands, surrounded by four stylized floral sprigs, with slanted lines and a scroll-line top suggesting the flower, extending toward the rim. There are eight similar floral sprigs extending from the two blue bands around the outside of the well toward the center, alternating with eight groups of four interconnected dots. The rim has a band of intertwined arcs and crescents, also known as a scallop or ermine border, surrounded by blue bands. Fragments with this border have been excavated in Colonial Williamsburg, and this plate was from "Johnny Reed's house in Coreyville, New Hampshire, near Plainfield.
