Label Text:
In the later part of his career, portrait and genre painter Dicksee adopted the hyper-realistic style of the Pre-Raphaelite painters. Here, within a precisely observed forest setting, he captures Hamlet’s ill-fated lover moments before her suicide, with mournful eyes glazed in thought and skin already morbidly pale.
